Wot About You Wednesday: Caela

Today's Wot About You guest is Caela. Caela is a Heart Guard in the Red Eagle's and if you happen to get a look at her, you might catch a glimpse of her "Baaaa-aaaaad Girl" cloak!

How long have you been a part of the WoTMUD community?

Since about 2002-2003, but I've had a few extended breaks in that time.

What should people know about the person behind the characters?

I'm a 24 year-old Aussie girl with too many degrees. I do occasional freelance journalism and archaeology work and work in a bookstore in between. Next year I'll be going back to uni to start my PhD in English. Hobbies include writing, reading, tennis, soccer, running and eating.

What was your most memorable "newbie" experience?

An RL friend and I were on our first lvl 13 alts when we ran into Bryan west of Caemy somewhere. Next thing I knew, my friend was dead and I was blind and spamming random directions like crazy. Needless to say, I died. My first case of pk shakes.

What is your favorite part of the mud (ie, pk, rp, questing, smobbing)
Combination of pk and the friends I've made here.

What made you decide to join the Red Eagle clan?

My first clanned alt was a Wisdom. While I was playing her I happened to meet Dougras, a Red Eagle who happened to live in Sydney as well. We got along really well and became close friends. Through him I met other Eagles of the time (Tarn, Rentris and Jomyl to name a couple) and knew I wanted to be one of them.

What's the best thing about your clan?

The atmosphere. The number one rule of the Eagles is always looking out for your brothers and sisters, even if that means your own death. This is closely followed by the second rule, which is get drunk and have fun. We have a unique RP background that combines immaturity with a dedication to fighting the Dark One and protecting our lands.

Why should people join your clan?

For all the reasons mentioned above. We're newbie friendly and have a good recruitment system in place that allows us to deal with applicants of all levels of experience. If you want to be part of a friendly, family-like environment with a focus on pk (and yes, we do welcome northern pkers), consider the Eagles.

What should they know before they apply?

We do have a clan RP (though we very rarely engage in RP "sessions") that should influence all of our actions. It involves having the Old Blood (the blood of ancient Manetheren) and all the memories of our previous lives. I'll leave the finer details a mystery - if you want to know more, come and apply! It's also useful to know that our application procedure has two streams. The first is the Night's Watch, which contains two ranks: Ranger and Senior Ranger. This is generally for newer players or players that we want to get to know better, and involves demonstrating zone knowledge and pk abilities. The other stream is being Squired, or mentored by a current Eagle. This is often the way taken by players who have been around for a while, but you'll still need to demonstrate your worth.

What is your biggest accomplishment in the game?

My main goal for a while now has been to reach rank 7 on Caela, which is getting fairly close now - I'm abut 70qps off. It's probably a testament to my dedication (or rather, the ridiculous amount of time I've been playing this game!) rather than any pk ability, but I'm very proud of it.

What are your goals in the game?

See above. I'd also like a Sedai one day.

If you could change one thing about the mud, what would it be?

The attitudes of a whole bunch of people.

What advice do you have for newbies just starting out?

Don't listen to the people who tell you to reroll 18 x x x 18 or 17 x x 17 17 on your first alt.

What do you value most in life?

My people.
